ABOUT

I AM AN ARTIST WHO WORKS IN THE CERAMIC MEDIUM. ALL MY ARTWORKS ARE METICULOUSLY HANDMADE AND ARE EITHER IN OBJECT OR WALL PIECE FORM.

Originally from New Zealand, I trained in painting at The School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury. I have previously held successful exhibitions in casinos in Mayfair, London with paintings of poker players. Looking to find motivation for painting after having my daughter, I took up pottery lessons and found I had a deep connection with the ceramic medium.

Like a magpie drawn to sparkly objects, I am forever enthused and falling in love with lavishly ornamented high fashion items. The process of coercing and adorning a humble lump of clay into an elegant and refined 3D piece provides an endless fascination and challenge for me. Using metallic lustres, gloss glazes and bold colourways, I strive to create beautiful striking pieces which have the same allure as the items found on the pages of a glossy fashion magazine.

Growing up in New Zealand I always had an infatuation with the architecture and angular motifs of the Art Deco dwellings dotted throughout the suburbs where I grew up. The patterns and the geometric detailing featured in my art works are inspired by this. The aesthetic of the Art Deco period very much resonates with me and the shapes of my vases and bowls are often influenced by 1930s ceramicists such as Keith Murray and Clarice Cliff. More recently, trips to Miami Beach where the Art Deco buildings are candy coloured made a big impression on me too.
