“My work pairs rough stoneware glaze with a gleam of gold.

Quiet romance, with an edge.”

I’m a New Zealand born artist based in England. I studied fine art at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. Travel has always been part of my life. The landscapes, light and cultural artefacts of the places I have spent time in continue to shape my creative direction.

For the past 15 years I have lived in the East Sussex countryside, where my family and I have curated our garden over time, planting indigenous trees, encouraging areas of rewilding, and cultivating pockets of woodland. The garden changes with each season, and it has become a constant source of inspiration.

My studio sits in the heart of this garden.

I’m drawn to what happens as the seasons turn, especially from autumn into winter. I look closely at seed pods, dried flower heads, brittle stems, bare branches, and the way light catches on frost and ice. These details become texture, pattern, and form in the studio.

I build each piece by hand using coiling and sculpting techniques, then develop the surface through multiple glaze and lustre firings as part of the making process. The work is made slowly, with care, to hold depth, energy and character.

Painting with glaze in layers, I capture the garden’s mood, texture and palette. Organic marks sit beside repeated embellishment, echoing the rhythm found in nature. Finished with metallic lustre, the work holds a balance between roughness and refinement.

Each piece is made to hold presence.
